Luis Cardona Talks About Gang Intervention in Communities and Schools
Luis Cardona is currently the youth violence prevention coordinator for Montgomery County, Maryland. Mr. Cardona was an adjunct professor at the Institute for Public Safety and Justice at the University of the District of Colombia. This former gang member and ex-offender turned his life around after being shot five times and losing his best friend to gang life. He is now a member of several task forces and advisory boards including: the Bi-County Gang taskforce, the National Advisory Board of Barrios Unidos, a nationally and internationally recognized organization that works with gang involved youth, and the National Advisory Board of the National Latino Fatherhood and Family Institute. Mr. Cardona has thirteen years of experience as a gang prevention and intervention specialist. Currently Mr. Cardona is the Head baseball coach at Bell Multiculteral High School, and with DC Dynasty Baseball. He is a father of two wonderful children, and a father figure to over 200 young men and young women throughout the nation.
